How to Clean Makeup Brushes

It really bothers me when I hear people don’t wash their makeup brushes at least once a week. I just imagine people rubbing their face on a table covered in dust and old makeup over and over again.

But that is pretty much what your doing to your face everytime you don’t clean your brushes. So I’m here to help people and tell them the proper way to clean their brushes.

First things first let’s talk about how often you should clean your brushes. You should clean all brushes at least once a week, even ones you didn’t use. This gets the dust from sitting off of them. You should wash the brushes you use on your eyes every night. This gets the color off and prevents bacteria build up.

Now, how do you actually clean your brushes?

It’s rather simple.

First things first take your dirty brush and wet it. Like you wet your face before washing it.

After that just take shampoo or soap and scrub your brushes with it. My favorite thing to use is the Dr. Bronner’s Castille Soap.

Then wash off your brushes again. Make sure to remove all the soap.

An extra step you can do is conditioning your brushes to keep them soft. Just apply conditioner thoroughly to the bristles and then wash. I love using the Paul Mitchell’s Tea Tree Conditioner.

Now how do you dry your brushes?

There are two ways but one helps the longevity of your brushes compared to the other two. You can just set your brushes on a paper towel or back in their cup right side up but the water will get into the bristles and ruin them.

The best way is super affordable and easy. All you need is a towel rack and a pack of hair ties. Wrap the hair tie around the towel rack and insert your brush upside down. The bristle won’t get ruined and they dry super fast.

That’s it. That is all you have to do to wash your brushes. It is super quick and easy. If this helped you please like this post, and if you want to see more you can follow my blog! If you need help or have a question please comment down below!
